How to advertise on ChatGPT in India: setup and cost guide (2026)
What ChatGPT Ads are, whether Indian businesses can use them, how to set up a campaign step by step, and what it costs, with every fact sourced and dated.

Can businesses in India advertise on ChatGPT?
Yes. OpenAI lists India among the countries where self-service Ads Manager is available, so an Indian business can sign up at ads.openai.com, create a campaign and set its own budget. The business that advertises and is billed must be based in a listed country.
Ads appear below ChatGPT’s answers for logged-in adults on the Free and Go plans, are labelled “Sponsored”, and, according to OpenAI, do not influence the answers. According to launch coverage, daily budgets can start at ₹725.

What ChatGPT Ads are, and how they work
ChatGPT Ads is OpenAI’s advertising product. Businesses buy sponsored cards through a self-service tool called Ads Manager. Everything below is taken from OpenAI’s own help pages unless it says otherwise.
Where ads appear
Below ChatGPT’s response, as a clearly labelled Sponsored card, shown only when the conversation is relevant to the advertiser.
Who sees them
Logged-in adults on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users do not see ads, and under-18 accounts are excluded.
How ads are chosen
Ads are matched to the context of the conversation, not to keywords typed into a search box, and they do not change ChatGPT’s answer.
What advertisers see
Aggregated, non-identifying results such as views and clicks. Advertisers do not get access to chats, chat history, memories or personal details.

How to set up a ChatGPT
Ads campaign.
"Decide the goal and the tracking first, then build the ads."
Sign up at ads.openai.com
Create an Ads Manager account for an India-based business. The business that advertises and pays must be based in a country on OpenAI’s availability list, which includes India.
Before any spendCreate a campaign
Each campaign has a title, an objective, a budget, start and end dates and the countries you want to reach. A campaign holds the objective and budget, an ad group holds bidding and the destination page, and an ad holds the creative.
Step 2Choose an objective
Views is billed per 1,000 impressions (CPM). Clicks is billed per valid click (CPC). Conversions optimises toward an action you define, and you are not billed per conversion. The objective cannot be changed after the campaign is created.
Step 3Set up tracking if you chose Conversions
A conversions campaign needs conversion tracking first, through the Conversions API, the JavaScript pixel, or both. The conversion event also cannot be changed after launch, so decide it first.
Before launchBuild the ad group and the chat card
Set your bid and the page people land on, then write the card: advertiser name, a short headline (about 50 characters) and a short description (about 100 characters). Send people to a page that matches the card.
CreativeLaunch, watch and improve
Check spend, views and clicks in Overview and Campaigns. If a live campaign shows “Not serving”, check the budget, billing and creative status first. Test a few card versions and move budget to the one that works.

What advertising on ChatGPT costs in India.
Costs are early, and they will move as more advertisers join. Here is what is known, with the source for each number.
- 01₹725 a day
- According to launch coverage, the minimum daily budget in India. A 30-day test at that level is about ₹21,750 in media, before any management fee.
- 02Views: per 1,000
- Billed per 1,000 impressions (CPM). Useful for being seen, but there is no dedicated brand-awareness objective yet.
- 03Clicks: per click
- Billed per valid click (CPC). The most common starting point, because it sends people to your website.
- 04Conversions: per result goal
- Optimised toward an action you define. You are not billed per conversion itself, and tracking must be in place first.
- 05Early costs reported
- Early India campaigns have reported average CPMs around ₹581, CPCs around ₹14 and a click-through rate around 4.25%. These come from launch coverage of a single account, so treat them as a signal, not a benchmark.
- 06Your fee is separate
- Media spend is paid to OpenAI. An agency or freelancer charges a management fee on top, which you should ask to see in writing before you start.

When ChatGPT Ads is worth testing, and when to wait.
It is a new channel with little history, so a small, measured test beats a big bet.
Worth testing when
- Your customers research or compare options before they buy
- You already advertise on Google or Meta and want to test the next channel
- You can track enquiries or sales from your website
- You can run a small test for a month or two and judge it on results
Think twice when
- You need guaranteed results in the first few weeks
- You have no website or no way to follow up leads
- You want brand awareness alone, as there is no dedicated objective yet
- Your business entity is not based in a country OpenAI lists
Compare it with
- People already searching: Google Ads
- Several paid channels together: performance marketing
